Challenging the Stereotypes #IAmCapable

I want to highlight today such a case among all my readers about a pretty young girl who used to live in my neighbourhood and had to face so many issues related to her personal choice of dressing and appearance. I call this as real intolerance in all respect that even after so many years of independence, we have such instances in our country but at the same time that we have strong and bold people who are capable and strong enough to keep taking their chances and do answer their critics with their self confidence and belief.

My friend faced a lot of criticism while living in the society as young people would indulge in eve teasing and would raise their eyebrows when she used to go to college. People would pass on comments about her looks and western clothes. She felt really uncomfortable and would often feel awkward about it as it was not her mistake. Then her family members were protective too and would often force her to cover up her body from head to toe. At some point of time, it was difficult for her to move out of the house in the evening and felt threatened. She did not have any answer to this situation until it was her army uncle who told her to be straight forward and join the Kick boxing classes. Her two months hard core training made difference to herself belief. She kicked one of the adult in the society when he was making comments and this gave confidence to other girls in the society. I think it was her strong training that she was able to cope with such a situation. There is nothing better than the feeling of looking into the mirror with the proud feeling for her and she was able to stand up and answer those uneducated people without any guilt and confidence.

In the end, I would summarize by saying that I wish for woman empowerment and security. I would urge everyone to rise against all kinds of injustice and unfairness against women in all forms. No matter what is the situation in life, we should always cheer up you and never feel low in life. If you see anything happening nearby then does raise your voice and take the step to support women in all forms. God has given you just one life & it’s up to us how you spend it. We should spend entire life with dignity and living without under tension or stress.

You must also take a look at some of the startling figures that the Nihar Naturals #IAmCapable survey conducted by Nielsen India reveals:

a. 69% of men agree that their judgement of women is based on their looks.
b. 64% of women agree that the judgments passed on them have affected their ability to reach their true potential.
c. 70%of women agree that majority of judgments on women are from family members or friends rather than strangers.
d. 72% of women agree that working women face more judgments on their looks or their clothes than housewives.

“I’m breaking stereotypes based on appearance by sharing my experience for the #IAmCapable activity at BlogAdda in association with Nihar Naturals.”
